Thank you & Farewell
Dear Clare MCR,
The time has come for me to step down from my Presidential role and hand the torch over to your new committee for 2018-19. This past year has flown by and been filled with many great experiences and people. Being President has allowed me to get to know so many of you, and so many of you are responsible for making this year what it was.
So firstly, I would to thank my wonderful committee for a very successful year. Week in, week out committee members volunteered their time to keep the MCR running as a fun and inclusive community for all. Looking back we have put on some incredible events and activities over the past year including: weekly yoga sessions; Clareity evenings and the Clareity Symposium; day trips to Westminster and Chilford Hall Vineyards; whisky and tequila tastings; themed formals including 60s Night, Halloween, Burns Night, Harry Potter and Chinese New Year; our first Super-Hall with visitors from five different Oxbridge Colleges; numerous college swaps including the Oxford Swap; Bridgemas and Christmas Dinner; Casino nights; movie nights; bops; Clare Great Bake-Off; punting inductions; and let’s not forget 10 jam-packed days of Freshers’ Week events. So much time and effort goes in behind the scenes, and at times this can be a thankless job. So thank you to the Clare MCR Committee 2017-18, you have done an incredible job and been a delight to work with.
Secondly I would like to welcome the new President, Nick. We have all seen the time and effort you have put into running the bar over the past year and I am excited to see how the MCR community shapes under your reign. But as I well know, it takes a team to keep this place running. So welcome to the new MCR Committee, I wish you all the best of luck and I am confident the MCR is in capable hand.
Lastly, I would like to thank all of you Clare MCR members for making it such a pleasure to be involved with the MCR committee over the past two years. The biggest perk of my roles has been getting to meet and spend time with such a fun and interesting group of people. Clare has a great atmosphere and a friendly nature and that is brought about by all of you. Good luck to each of you for whatever the rest of this academic year may bring. I know thesis/ exam term is upon us, but even more reason to pop into college for a lunch break or an evening bevvy. My time on the committee might be done, but I am sure I will still be seeing all of you around.
MCR President 2017-18
