[EVENT] EU Referendum Debate
The upcoming referendum is a topic that students feel very passionately about – it is a crucial decision that will define our working lives. As a students’ union we have been thinking carefully about how to engage the student body in the debate, and to encourage you to use your vote in the most informed way possible.
We have invited the following speakers who will present their arguments for and against Britain’s continued membership of the EU. The debate will take place at 7:30pm in the Homerton Auditorium, Mary Allen Building.
- Lord Richard Balfe: Lord Balfe has taken an active role in the group ‘Cambridge for Europe’. He is a Tory peer who served as an MEP (1979 – 2004) and also has significant industrial experience.
- Dr Julian Huppert: Dr Huppert was the Liberal Democrat MP for Cambridge (2010 – 2015), and is now a fellow at Clare College.
- Mr Stewart Jackson MP: Mr Jackson is currently the Conservative MP for Peterborough (2005-). Mr Jackson is a long-standing opponent of EU membership.
- Mr David Campbell-Bannerman MEP: Mr Bannerman is a Conservative MEP for the East of England (2011-) He is co-chairman of the Eurosceptic ‘Conservatives for Britain’ group.
There will be ample time for questions afterwards. If you do wish to submit a question in advance, please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.EU-Referendum-Poster
